Short answer
There is no single best resume builder in India. Internshala's free builder suits internships on Internshala, Naukri's free maker suits your Naukri profile, a human writer suits years of experience, and Teal or Jobscan suit applying widely abroad. Choose PopCVs to tailor each application in India honestly, with any new fact flagged and no subscription.
There is no single best resume builder for everyone in India. A second-year student applying to internships, a fresher in placement season and a manager with a 90-day notice period need different things. Over the last two weeks we compared PopCVs, one alternative at a time, with the tools Indian job seekers actually use. This post pulls those comparisons together.
Each section links to the full comparison, where every competitor detail comes from that company's own pages, checked in October 2026. Prices and plans change, so check the source before you pay. And yes, PopCVs is our product; we've tried to say plainly where something else is the better choice.
| Option | How you pay | Best for |

|---|

|---|
| Naukri resume maker | Free, with a small number of AI attempts | A quick resume on your Naukri profile |
|---|
| Naukri FastForward or Shine | Paid human writing, priced by experience | Years of experience you would rather talk through |
|---|
| ResumeGyani | Fixed-term passes that don't auto-renew | A short, intense burst of applying |
|---|

|---|
Five questions sort most options quickly:
- How do you pay? One-time, a fixed-term pass, or a subscription that renews until you cancel? In rupees with UPI, or in dollars by card?
- Does the output parse cleanly? A single-column file with real, selectable text is the safe default for portals and careers pages. Read what an ATS-friendly resume is for why.
- Can you tailor per job? Different jobs ask for different keywords. A tool should show you what a specific job description wants and keep a version per job.
- Does the AI stay honest? Any AI rewriter can add a number or skill you never had. Check how the tool handles that.
- Does it fit Indian applications? CGPA or percentages, internships, campus placements, notice periods and job descriptions from Indian portals.

Plain ChatGPT is free to start and good at rewording a bullet or drafting a summary. It can read a PDF you upload, but only as text, so it can't tell you how an employer's ATS will handle your layout, and it doesn't keep versions per job. You can also run PopCVs inside it. Word or Google Docs templates and a senior's resume cost nothing and are fine if you keep the layout single-column and write your own lines. A senior's resume is a good map, not a good resume. Full comparison: Word templates and seniors' resumes vs a builder.
Canva makes a resume that looks great, and Canva's own resume FAQ advises avoiding text boxes, tables and images for applicant tracking systems. Use the designed version for portfolios and interviews, and a plain one for portals. Full comparison: Canva templates vs an ATS-friendly resume.
Job portals: free builders and paid writers
Naukri's resume maker is free, puts the resume on your Naukri profile, and gives free users a small number of AI attempts. Its FastForward resume writing assigns a human writer who calls you, with the first draft in about 8 working days on standard delivery. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Naukri's resume maker and FastForward.
Internshala's resume builder is free, made for students, and lets you apply to internships on Internshala in one click. It is the right tool early in college. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Internshala's resume builder.
Shine sells resume writing priced by years of experience, with revisions that close after a set number of iterations or days. iimjobs sells a Pro membership for job seekers, not resume writing. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Shine resume writing and iimjobs Pro.
ResumeGyani is an Indian tool that sells fixed-term passes that don't auto-renew, with a broad career toolkit around the resume. It suits a short, intense burst of applying. Full comparison: PopCVs vs ResumeGyani.
Jobscan is a mature job-match scanner that reads the file you upload, with a free tier and paid plans in US dollars. Choose it if you want to keep your own file and also want LinkedIn help and a job tracker. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Jobscan.
Rezi and Teal are polished AI builders. Teal's free plan includes unlimited job tracking; Rezi offers a one-time Lifetime plan alongside its monthly Pro. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Rezi and Teal.
Zety and Resume.io have large template libraries. On both, the free plan downloads TXT only, and their own pages describe trials that can continue as recurring plans, so read the terms and set a reminder. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Zety and Resume.io.
StylingCV is a global builder, founded for the Arab world and with an office in India, that bundles job discovery, a tracker and many languages on monthly plans in US dollars. Full comparison: PopCVs vs StylingCV.
Resume Worded, Kickresume and Enhancv split into a feedback tool (Resume Worded) and design-led builders (Kickresume and Enhancv), all on recurring plans. Full comparison: PopCVs vs Resume Worded, Kickresume and Enhancv.
Where PopCVs fits
PopCVs is narrower than most of these, on purpose. It is built for one job: a clean resume, tailored to each application, without the AI slipping in things you didn't do.
- A free ATS check every day. It scores your resume as built or imported in PopCVs (contact details, sections, bullets and keywords) out of 100, with a breakdown and a prioritised list of fixes.
- A job-match score that shows which keywords from a specific job description you cover and which are missing.
- Tailoring that only uses your facts. A truth check flags any new employer, job title, date, school, degree, number or skill in a rewrite, and you approve every change. Each version is saved against its job, with a cover letter if you want one.
- Four single-column templates with real, selectable text. Editing and PDF downloads are free.
- One-time credit packs in INR or USD, no subscription. See the pricing page.
- Inside ChatGPT and Claude through its MCP server. Setup is on the MCP page.
What PopCVs doesn't do: human writers, job listings, a job tracker, a browser extension, LinkedIn optimisation or design-heavy templates. If you need those, the tools above cover them.
Quick verdict
