Keep it to one or two pages
Personal details, education, skills and experience. Leave out anything the employer doesn't need to decide on your application.
Some employers in India still ask for a biodata, especially for government, clerical, factory and entry-level jobs. A job biodata is a one or two page document with your personal details, education and skills. Here's the format, with samples, and when a resume is the better choice.

Experience, rewritten for the job
A job biodata covers more personal details than a resume. Include what the employer asks for and nothing that isn't relevant to the job.
Switch between a typical resume and the PopCVs version. Same experience, very different keyword match.

Real experience, in words the software doesn't look for.
Personal details, education, skills and experience. Leave out anything the employer doesn't need to decide on your application.
Give the course, board or university, year and percentage for each, starting with your latest qualification.
Add a short declaration that the details are true, with place, date and your signature. Most job biodatas in India end this way.
Most private companies and job portals expect a resume, not a biodata. Use the same details in a resume format for those applications.

In India the three words are often used loosely. Here is what each one usually means, which jobs ask for which, and how to avoid sending the wrong document.
A biodata focuses on personal details, education and basic skills and is used for some government and entry-level jobs. A resume is a short, results-focused summary for private-sector jobs. A CV is a longer, detailed record, mostly used in academics and research.
Name and contact details, date of birth, address, languages known, career objective, educational qualifications with percentages, skills, work experience if any, and a signed declaration at the end.
Most private companies and job portals expect a resume. Use a biodata only when the employer asks for one, and send a resume everywhere else.
Add a recent passport-size photo only if the employer or application form asks for one. For job portals and private companies, leave it out.
