PopCVs vs ResumeGyani: Time-Based Plans or Pay Per Application?

By Tanul Mittal6 min read

If you search for an AI resume builder in India, ResumeGyani is one of the names you will run into. It is Indian, it prices in rupees, it takes UPI, and it does a lot. PopCVs is also built for Indian job seekers. So the real question isn't "which one is Indian", it is "which way of paying and working fits how you apply".

This is an honest comparison. Every ResumeGyani detail below comes from its own pricing page and product summary, checked in October 2026. Plans change, so check those pages before you buy.

How ResumeGyani works

ResumeGyani is a broad career suite. Its paid Pro plans include, as of October 2026:

  • An AI resume agent for line-by-line edits and tailoring to a pasted job description.
  • A full ATS report with keyword gaps and fixes.
  • A large library of ATS-friendly templates, with unlimited watermark-free PDF downloads.
  • Cover letters, LinkedIn tools and a salary analyzer.
  • On the longer plans and bundles, extras like AI job search, interview practice and an AI career coach.

The free tier lets you use the editor and live preview, run an ATS score check without signing up, and try a few AI suggestions.

The pricing model: fixed-term passes

ResumeGyani doesn't sell a monthly subscription. Its pricing page says Pro plans are a single payment for a fixed term and "never auto-renew". As of October 2026, Pro Monthly is ₹699 for 30 days and Pro Annual is ₹2,499 for a year, with quarterly and half-year plans in between (pricing page). There is also a Download Pack at ₹399 (as of October 2026) for three watermark-free PDF downloads over 7 days.

That is a fair, transparent model. You know what you pay, and nothing renews behind your back.

What ResumeGyani does well

  • Breadth. If you want resume building, interview practice, salary research and job search in one login, ResumeGyani offers more of that than PopCVs.
  • Unlimited use inside a term. If you plan to rewrite and download dozens of versions in two intense weeks, a time-based pass gives you room to do that.
  • Low-friction start. You can check an ATS score without creating an account.
  • Indian payments. UPI, cards, netbanking and wallets.

If you are in a placement season sprint and want an all-in-one toolkit, ResumeGyani is a reasonable choice.

Where the time-based model can work against you

A pass is priced in days, but a job search in India rarely runs on a neat calendar. A few common patterns:

  • Campus placements come in waves. A B.Tech or MBA student might apply to six companies in August, wait through interviews, then apply to ten more in November. A 30-day pass covers one wave and sits unused through the waiting.
  • Working professionals apply slowly. If you are job hunting through a 90-day notice period, applying to two or three roles a week while doing your job, most days of a pass go by with nothing to tailor.
  • Downloads are part of the paid offer. On the free tier you can build and preview, but watermark-free PDFs come with a Pro plan or the Download Pack.

None of this makes a pass a bad deal. It means the value depends on how many applications you send while it is active.

What PopCVs does differently

PopCVs is narrower on purpose. It does the resume and cover letter for each job, and tries to do that part carefully.

  1. Pay per action, no subscription. AI features use one-time credit packs. You spend credits when you run a job match, tailor a version or write a cover letter, not for days on a calendar. There is no plan to renew, and our terms say credits don't expire while your account is active. Current prices are on the pricing section.
  2. Free where it should be free. Editing your resume, downloading PDFs and one ATS check every day cost nothing. You can build a clean resume and download it without paying.
  3. An ATS check you can return to. PopCVs checks the contact details, sections, bullets and keywords of your resume as built or imported in PopCVs, scores it out of 100 and lists fixes in priority order. See what a good ATS score is for how to read the score.
  4. A job-match score. Paste a job description from Naukri, LinkedIn or a company careers page and see which of its keywords your resume covers and which are missing.
  5. Tailoring that only uses your facts. PopCVs rewrites your summary, skills and bullets toward the job using what is already in your resume. If a rewrite introduces an employer, job title, date, school, degree, number or skill that wasn't in your original, PopCVs flags it before you accept. This matters for freshers, where AI tools love to invent "improved efficiency by 30%".
  6. A version per job. Your master resume stays as it is. Each tailored copy is saved against the job it was made for, with a cover letter if you want one.
  7. Single-column, ATS-friendly PDFs. Every PopCVs template is single-column with real, selectable text, built to parse cleanly. More on why in what an ATS-friendly resume is.
  8. Inside ChatGPT and Claude. PopCVs runs a remote MCP server, so you can connect it to your AI assistant and ask it to match, tailor or export with the real PopCVs tools on your account. See the MCP page, and our comparison with plain ChatGPT for why that matters.

A worked example (illustrative)

Two job seekers, both with illustrative names and numbers.

Aman, final-year B.Com, campus placements. He applies to eight companies in two weeks, then waits for results. A 30-day pass would cover his burst well, and the interview tools would help him prepare. On PopCVs he would spend credits only on the eight tailored versions and cover letters, then nothing while he waits. Either works. If he wants interview practice in the same product, ResumeGyani has the edge.

Sneha, data analyst with 3 years' experience and a 60-day notice period. She applies to two or three roles a week over four months, each one carefully. A time-based pass would need renewing several times to cover the whole search, with most days unused. On PopCVs she tailors each application when it comes up, keeps every version saved against its job, and uses the free daily ATS check between applications.

Quick verdict

  • Choose ResumeGyani if you want one product for resume, interview prep, salary research and job search, and you will apply heavily within a fixed window.
  • Choose PopCVs if you want to pay per application with no subscription and no time window to beat, keep a separate version for every job, tailor without the AI inventing facts, and use it from ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Either way, check your resume against each job description before you apply. A resume that fits the job matters more than the tool you made it with.

Frequently asked questions

Is ResumeGyani a subscription?

No. As of October 2026, ResumeGyani's pricing page describes its Pro plans as one-time payments for a fixed term (30 days up to a year) that never auto-renew. When the term ends, the paid features stop until you buy again.

Which is cheaper, PopCVs or ResumeGyani?

It depends on how you apply. A time-based pass suits a short, intense burst of applications. PopCVs charges per AI action (a job match, a tailored version, a cover letter) with one-time credit packs and no subscription, so a slower search doesn't pay for idle days. Editing, PDF downloads and one ATS check a day are free on PopCVs. Current PopCVs prices are on the pricing section of the home page.

Does PopCVs have interview prep or job search like ResumeGyani?

No. PopCVs focuses on the resume and cover letter for each job: ATS check, job-match score, tailoring, versions and PDF export. If you want mock interviews, a career coach or job search in the same product, ResumeGyani covers more ground.

Will AI tailoring add skills I don't have?

Any AI rewriter can. PopCVs tailors using only what is already in your resume and flags new employers, titles, dates, schools, degrees, numbers or skills that appear in a rewrite, so you can reject them before accepting the version.

Can I use PopCVs inside ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. PopCVs runs a remote MCP server, so you can connect it to ChatGPT or Claude, sign in once, and ask your assistant to check, tailor or export your resume with the real PopCVs tools. The steps are on the PopCVs MCP page.

Plain ChatGPT is free and good at rewording, but it doesn't check your resume's structure and keywords the way an ATS reads them, and it will happily add things you never did. Here is where PopCVs is better, where ChatGPT is enough, and how to run PopCVs inside your AI.
