PopCVs vs Zety and Resume.io: Trial Plans or One-Time Packs?

By Tanul MittalUpdated 8 min read

Search for "resume builder" from India and Zety and Resume.io are near the top. Both are mature, well-designed products with a big template library and step-by-step builders. Both let you start free. And both ask you to pay when you want to download a proper PDF.

The part worth slowing down for is how that payment works. This post explains each pricing model exactly as their own pages describe it, what each product does well, and how PopCVs differs. Every Zety and Resume.io detail comes from their own pages, checked in October 2026 from India: Zety's pricing page and terms of use, and Resume.io's pricing page and terms of service. Plans change, so read them again before you pay.

Short answer

Choose Zety or Resume.io if you want a designed template and a guided builder, and you will finish within a trial or are happy with a recurring plan. Choose PopCVs if you want no subscription, free PDF downloads and a version tailored to each job, with any fact the AI adds flagged before you accept it.

How Zety works

Zety gives you a guided resume builder, a cover letter builder, more than 18 resume templates, a Resume Check that its pricing page says can identify 30+ issues, and job matches. You can import an existing resume or start from scratch.

On the free Basic package you can build and edit, but downloads are in TXT format only. PDF and Word downloads come with a paid plan.

Zety's pricing model

As of October 2026, Zety's pricing page shown to us in India lists, in rupees:

  • Pro Package: a 14-day trial for ₹195.00. The page then says it "auto-renews at ₹445.00 billed every 4 weeks", with "Cancel anytime".
  • Annual Package: ₹1,195.00 paid at once, which the page says "auto-renews each year".

Zety's terms say that once a subscription is active it "will automatically renew as described on the offer page" until you end it, and that you can cancel from the online cancel page in your settings or through customer service. In other words, the low trial price is the start of a recurring plan, not a one-off purchase. If you only need one PDF this week, put a reminder in your phone for the end of the trial.

How Resume.io works

Resume.io offers a resume builder, cover letters, many templates (including Word and Google Docs styles), an AI resume builder and an ATS scorer. Its paid plans include unlimited resumes and cover letters, all premium templates and colours, and unlimited PDF downloads. The free plan allows one resume and one cover letter, with downloads in TXT format only.

Resume.io's pricing model

Resume.io's pricing page shows passes in rupees, such as a one-week pass, and labels each one "One-time payment, no need to cancel". The amounts and pass lengths shown to us changed between visits in October 2026, so we haven't quoted a number here; check what the page shows you.

The same page's FAQ describes a 7-day trial differently: after 7 days, "if you don't cancel you are automatically subscribed to the premium monthly membership". Its terms of service add that recurring purchases are charged until you notify them of cancellation, and that a cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term.

So the page describes both one-time passes and a trial that becomes a monthly membership. Before you pay, read the checkout screen and confirm which one you are buying.

What Zety and Resume.io do well

  • Design range. Far more templates and colour options than PopCVs, if the look of your resume matters to you.
  • Cover letters in the same place. Both include a matching cover letter builder.
  • Guided building. Both walk you through each section step by step, which helps if you are starting from a blank page.

If you want a designed resume and will finish it within the trial, either can be a sensible choice, as long as you cancel on time if you don't want the recurring plan.

  • Job searches don't fit a trial window. Campus placements come in waves, and a working professional with a 60 or 90-day notice period applies slowly. A 7 or 14-day trial covers a few days of that; after it, you are on a recurring plan or out.
  • Free PDFs aren't part of the free plan. On both, as of October 2026, the free tier downloads TXT only, so the first proper PDF means a paid plan.
  • Built for a global audience. Zety's terms say its site is directed at people in the United States. That doesn't stop it working in India, but Indian details such as CGPA, 10th and 12th percentages, notice period and campus placements aren't its focus.

What PopCVs does differently

  1. No subscription, no trial to cancel. AI features use one-time credit packs paid in INR (UPI, cards or netbanking) or USD (cards or PayPal). Nothing renews. Credits don't expire while your account is active, and new accounts get some free credits. Prices are on the pricing page.
  2. Free where it matters. Editing and PDF downloads are free, and you get one free ATS check every day.
  3. An ATS check on your resume. PopCVs scores your resume as built or imported in PopCVs (contact details, sections, bullets and keywords) out of 100, with a breakdown by category and a prioritised list of fixes.
  4. A job-match score. Paste a job description from Naukri, LinkedIn or a careers page and see which of its keywords you cover and which are missing.
  5. Tailoring that only uses your facts. PopCVs rewrites your summary, skills and bullets for the job using only what is already in your resume. A truth check flags any new employer, title, date, school, degree, number or skill, and you approve every change. Each tailored version is saved against its job.
  6. Import, then keep going. Bring in an existing resume (PDF or Word) or a LinkedIn PDF, including one you made elsewhere.
  7. Inside ChatGPT and Claude. PopCVs runs a remote MCP server, so you can connect it once and ask your assistant to check, tailor or export with the real PopCVs tools. Steps are on the MCP page.

What PopCVs doesn't offer: designed or multi-column templates, photos on the resume, human writers or job listings. Its four templates are single-column, with real, selectable text and no graphics, built to parse cleanly. See the ATS-friendly resume template and why that layout matters.

A worked example (illustrative)

Karthik (illustrative name and numbers) is an operations executive with three years' experience and a 90-day notice period. He plans to apply to two or three roles a week for four months.

  • On a trial-based builder, he would start a trial, build his resume and download a PDF. If he keeps the plan, it renews for as long as his search runs. If he cancels after the trial, a fresh PDF after later edits needs a paid plan again, since both free plans download TXT only.
  • On PopCVs, he builds and downloads his resume free, runs the daily ATS check, and spends credits only when he matches or tailors for a specific job. When he pauses for a fortnight of interviews, nothing is billed.

Quick verdict

  • Choose Zety or Resume.io if you want a designed template, a guided builder and you will finish within a trial, or you are happy with a recurring plan. Read the terms and set a reminder before the trial ends.
  • Choose PopCVs if you want no subscription, free PDF downloads, a version tailored to each job with any fact the AI adds flagged before you accept it, and a resume built around Indian applications that you can also work on from ChatGPT or Claude.
  • Either way, test your PDF by copying its text into a plain text editor before you upload it.
