If you are a student or a fresh graduate in India, Internshala is probably where you found your first internship listing. Its resume builder is free, designed for people with little work experience, and wired straight into its applications. For a lot of freshers, it is the first resume they ever make.
PopCVs is built for a different moment: when you are applying to specific jobs, often outside one portal, and want each application to fit the job it is for. This post compares the two honestly, including when Internshala alone is enough.
Every Internshala detail below comes from Internshala's own pages, checked in October 2026: its resume maker page, its student help centre and its guide on how to upload a resume on Internshala.
Short answer
Use Internshala's free builder if you mostly apply to internships on Internshala: it is made for freshers and lets you apply in one click. Use PopCVs when a placement, off-campus or portal job deserves its own version, matched to that job description, with any new fact flagged before you accept it. Many freshers should keep both.

How Internshala's resume builder works
There are two connected pieces.
Your Internshala resume. Once you register, you build your resume from your profile (Profile, then Edit Resume) in sections: personal details, education, work experience including internships, positions of responsibility, trainings and courses, projects, skills, work samples and accomplishments. Internshala's guide says the resume is saved on the platform, so you can apply to internships with one click, and that employers review its database of resumes.
The AI resume maker. As of October 2026, the resume maker page describes:
- Creating, editing and downloading your resume at no cost.
- AI suggestions, section by section, to improve content.
- Keyword recommendations based on your profile and job roles.
- Uploading an existing PDF or DOCX for an instant score and feedback on formatting, grammar and content.
- Exporting the finished resume as a PDF.
When you apply, the application itself carries part of the pitch. Internshala's help centre points students to the "Why should you be hired?" answer as a way to improve their chances, and notes that an application can't be edited once it is submitted.
What Internshala does well
- Free, end to end. Building, downloading and applying cost nothing.
- Made for freshers. The sections match what a student actually has: projects, trainings, positions of responsibility and work samples like a GitHub or Behance link.
- One-click applications. If you are applying to many internships on Internshala, a saved profile resume is fast.
- Openings in the same place. Internships, fresher jobs and the resume sit together, which PopCVs doesn't offer.
If you are a second-year student applying to internships on Internshala, its builder is all you need. Keep your profile complete and spend your effort on the "Why should you be hired?" answer.
Where a single profile resume runs out
The trade-off is in the design: one profile resume that goes with your applications.
- Different jobs want different things. A B.Com final-year student might apply to a financial analyst role and a digital marketing role in the same week. The analyst role wants Excel, Tally and your finance project near the top; the marketing role wants your campaign for the college fest. One profile resume has one order and one summary, so you either edit it between applications or send the same version to both.
- Keywords come from a specific posting. Internshala's page describes keyword suggestions based on your profile and job roles. It doesn't describe pasting in one particular job description and seeing which of its keywords you're missing.
- Placements and off-campus applications happen elsewhere. Campus placement portals, company careers pages, Naukri and LinkedIn all want a file. The Internshala PDF works there too, but it is still the one general version, and you have to keep track yourself of which version went to which company.
What PopCVs does differently
PopCVs starts from your one true resume and makes a version for each job you apply to.
- Bring your resume in. Import a PDF or Word resume, including one you downloaded from Internshala, or your LinkedIn PDF, and it becomes an editable resume. Or build one from scratch, with room for your CGPA or percentage under education, plus projects and internships.
- A free ATS check every day. PopCVs checks the contact details, sections, bullets and keywords of your resume as built or imported in PopCVs, scores it out of 100, breaks the score down by category and lists fixes in priority order.
- A job-match score. Paste the job description and see which of its keywords your resume already covers and which are missing. This is a paid AI action.
- Tailoring that keeps to your facts. PopCVs rewrites your summary, skills and bullets toward that job using only what is already in your resume. The truth check flags any new employer, job title, date, school, degree, number or skill in the rewrite, so a metric nobody measured is flagged before it can reach your resume. You approve every change.
- A saved version per job, plus a cover letter for the same job if you need one.
- Free, clean PDFs. Four single-column templates with real, selectable text and no graphics or sidebars. Editing and downloads are free. The resume format for freshers post covers length, section order and file names.
- No subscription. AI features use one-time credit packs paid in INR (UPI, card or netbanking) or USD (card or PayPal), and credits don't expire while your account is active. New accounts get some free credits. See the pricing page.
- Inside ChatGPT and Claude. PopCVs runs a remote MCP server. Connect it once, sign in, and ask your assistant to check, tailor or export your resume with the real PopCVs tools. Claude's custom connectors work on every plan, including Free; in ChatGPT they need Developer mode, which isn't on every plan. Steps are on the MCP page, and our comparison with plain ChatGPT explains the difference.
PopCVs does not list internships or jobs, and recruiters don't search a PopCVs database. It works alongside a portal, not instead of one.
A worked example (illustrative)
Ananya (an illustrative name), a final-year B.Com student in Pune with an 8.1 CGPA, has a Tally and GST project, a two-month internship at a CA firm, and ran Instagram for her college fest.
On Internshala, her profile resume lists all of it. She applies to six internships in one evening and writes a specific "Why should you be hired?" answer for each. That works well for internships on the platform.
For placements, she has two shortlists: an audit associate role at a mid-size firm and a marketing trainee role at a D2C brand. In PopCVs she imports her Internshala PDF, runs the free ATS check, and fixes a missing city and two vague bullets. The job match for the audit role shows "reconciliation" and "Excel" missing, though both are in her internship. Tailoring moves them into her skills and leads with the CA firm internship. For the marketing role, the fest campaign moves up instead. When a suggested bullet claims she "grew followers by 40%", the truth check flags the number she never gave, and she rejects it. She ends up with two saved versions, one per company.
Quick verdict
- Use Internshala's builder for internships on Internshala, especially early in college. It is free, fresher-friendly and fast to apply with.
- Use PopCVs when you are applying to specific jobs, in placements or off campus, and want a version tailored to each, a record of what you sent, and AI that flags any achievement you didn't give it.
- Use both. Keep your Internshala profile complete, and import that resume into PopCVs when a particular job deserves its own version.
